1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it clean quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work, or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as some area rug. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's going to cost you more and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty they tend to be.
If you have a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
